Standard Life chairman joins Barclays

Standard Life chairman Gerry Grimstone has been appointed deputy chairman of Barclays.

Grimstone (pictured) will join the Barclays board as a non-executive in January. He will succeed Michael Rake as deputy chairman and senior independent director at the same time.

He will continue in his role as Standard Life chairman.

In July, Rake announced he would step down from his role at the end of the year.

Earlier that month Rake was reportedly responsible for Barclays chief executive Anthony Jenkins’ departure from the bank.
