Standard Life chairman Gerry Grimstone is in talks to become Barclays’ deputy chairman as the bank prepares for a shake-up under new boss John McFarlane, according to reports.
Sky News reported that Barclays had approached Grimstone (pictured) to become a non-executive director of the bank, acting as its deputy chairman and senior independent director when Mike Rake steps down next year.
The news comes as Barclays is set to soon announce its new chief executive, after ex-boss Antony Jenkins was ousted by the board in the summer.
Grimstone has been chairman of Standard Life since 2007 but is expected to step down from the position in the next few years.
Barclays declined to comment to Sky News while a Standard Life spokesman could not be reached.
